Con l'uscita della V2 di System Center Virtual Machine Manager, sarà possibile gestire, oltre a Virtual Server ed Hyper-V anche Vmware. E fin qui, nulla di eclatante, era già stato annunciato da tempo e ok.

La cosa che mi ha colpito particolarmente, in questo post del Program Manager di SCVMM, è questo passaggio:

"You'll also be able to automate across hypervisors using a single Powershell interface that we provide. VMM will abstract the difference in hypervisor APIs for you. You simply run the "Stop-VM" cmdlet and we make sure that regardless of the hypervisor platform, the VM is stopped. No more code blocks that read "If (VMware)....elseif (VirtualServer)......elseif (Hyper-V)......""

Credo che, se non verrà rivoluzionato nelle features (vedi Hyper-V, anche se arriveranno quelle funzionalità temporaneamente rimosse), SCVMM punta davvero ad essere la soluzione definitiva per la gestione del datacenter virtualizzato.

Tutto questo, ovviamente, IMHO. :)
