Assolutamente si, in Italia trovate esempi qui: http://www.microsoft.com/italy/office/smartclient/default.mspx, sono più di 20 soluzioni realizzate e disponibili.
In particolare vi segnalo 2 soluzioni che sono prodotti realizzati ex-novo e che vengono venduti con Office professional incluso ad un prezzo molto,molto interessante.
Qui www.fatturiamo.it trovate una soluzione per la produzione di fatture (è solo il primo di una serie di moduli), naturalmente non è solo un template è una vera e propria applicazione con tanto di aggiornamento on-line, archivio locale etc etc, ma per l'utente è semplicisssima da usare.
Qui http://excellent.str.it/ trovate una soluzione per studi tecnici realizzata con Excel da STR.

Materiale a supporto dello sviluppo:

Nei webcast italiani sezione Office http://www.microsoft.com/italy/msdn/eventi/webcast/passati.mspx#EEAA sono presenti delle cose interessanti.
Ho anche un documento FAQ di 70 (pagine in italiano) che sarò lieto di spedire a chi me lo richiederà.

Riguarda in particolare la programmazione del TaskPane sia in Word che in Excel.
