"No files were found to look in.Find was stopped in progress." in Visual Studio 2003

 It also deserves a nomination in the problem solving category Spin around on your chair 3 times, clap your hands twice and then press... because the solution is to press Control + Scroll Lock and all is fixed.

Bah. E funziona pure.

Thanks for the solution. I've been afflicted by this problem before and it went away only after I reinstalled the IDE.

Like Tuncay I'd like to know how you found the solution. Is there a repository of obscure but useful tips somewhere?

Hmmm..pressing Control+Scroll Lock had the side-effect of teleporting me to Kansas...but at least I can search now!

i spinned around the chair for 3 times and clapped my hand twice...pressed ctrl+scroll_lock...it works now!...what a magic!!!

Went to the registry and deleted the replace keys. And it worked.

my find key is

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-725345543-2052111302-527237240-41945\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.1\Find

Wooooow :-)!! Ctrl+ScrollLock is WHAT?! But it really worked, can't believe that! Thanx a lot, saved me after some frustrated minutes! From now on, I'll always try Ctrl+ScrollLock if something sucks..

I still don't understand how to fix the problem. I pressed Ctrl+ScrollLock. But the search still doesn't work.

When should I press Ctrl+ScrollLock? After the search dialog pops up and before Find button is clicked?

I was flabbergasted. The solution sound so ludicrous, but it actually worked (in VS 2005 no less). I nominate Ctrl-Scroll lock as the most obscure solution to actually solve a problem.

Have you tried Ctrl+Break ? because for me this works, and not Ctrl+ScrollLock (VS 2003 SP1 on XP SP1)

for me ALT + Scroll Lock worker ...

I also deleted the registry entry in

MyComputer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Find

also try restarting Visual Studio IDE...

same for me, last time it was CTRL+SCROLL-LOCK in VS 2005 but this time only ALT-BREAK worked for me.
This is just insane.
Some developer at M$ must have had a really bad hangover while writing that code.

Anyone who has reported this to knowledgebase yet?

Checking it out on key mappings (Tools->Options->Environment->Keyboard) it shows, that it recognizes it as Ctrl+Break. Alt+Break is recognized as Alt+Ctr+Break. All in all - I'd say it's the Ctrl+Break combination that is actually behind this. More than that I cannot say.
